ANKARA - The parties that came together in partnership with the HDP's call for joint struggle, evaluated the election law being anti-democratic and unlawful, and said: "We will continue to step up the struggle together in the field".

A joint written statement was made by the Labor Party (EMEP), People's Houses, Laborers' Movement Party (EHP), Socialist Councils Federation (SMF), Social Freedom Party (TOP) and the Workers' Party of Turkey, which came together with the call of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). In the statement made regarding the election law, introduced by AKP and MHP, it was said, "We do not accept the antidemocratic election system."

In the statement, it was emphasized that the proposal was brought to the Parliament despite the opposition's objections, and it was said, "This proposal, which has lost its social support, cannot offer the public anything other than misery, injustice and violence, and which is the result of the desire of the ruling parties to increase the number of MPs with games, means participation in the elections in the already antidemocratic electoral system, It will deepen problems such as justice, equality and control in representation. It is undemocratic and unlawful.”

Drawing attention to the determination to continue the struggle, the statement said, “On the contrary, we will continue to step up the struggle together in every field, taking into account the interests of our people. Once again, we invite all our citizens to a common struggle against the government's policies that are hostile to the people making the elections unsafe and unfair.

'IT IS ILLEGAL'

The joint statement made by HDP, SMF, EHP, EMEP, TİP, TÖP and People's Houses is as follows: “Despite the objections of the opposition parties, the reaction of the democratic mass organizations formed for election security and the public, the proposal to amend the election law was presented  to the Turkish Grand National Parliament by government.

UNCONSTITUTIONAL

This proposal has once again revealed how the government, which does not take any action for  the real problems of the people, can become zealous upon their interests. This proposal, which foresees the exemption of the AKP from election bans, the abandonment of the practice of employing the most senior judges in provincial and district election boards, and the continuation of the electoral threshold system, is also contrary to Articles 10, 37 and 67 of the Constitution.

EMPHASIS ON COMMON STRUGGLE

We, who came together to defend equality, freedom, democracy, peace, labour, justice, gender equality and ecology, do not accept this law proposal introduced by the AKP-MHP. The ruling parties that want to pass this anti-democratic law by relying on their temporary majority in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will not be able to harm our common will for struggle in the slightest. On the contrary, we will continue to step up the struggle together, taking into account the interests of our people. Once again, we invite all our citizens to a common struggle against the government's policies that are hostile to the people, and the games that make the elections unsafe and unfair.”
