Criminal complaint filed for refugee killed by Turkish soldiers

MARDİN - A criminal complaint was filed by the family of Ridwan Îd Numan El Ehmed who lost his life as a result of the torture he was subjected to by the Turkish soldiers at the border of Northern and Eastern Syria.
 
Trying to cross over to Turkey from Hasekê on November 27, 2021 with two of his friends, Ridwan Îd Numan El Ehmed (40) was caught by Turkish soldiers. It was determined that Ehmed who was thrown over the border wall to the other side had lost his life. No statement was made regarding the death of Ehmed by Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Defense or Turkish Armed Forces, or any other authorities.
 
THERE IS A WITNESS
 
While the Mardin and Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had not launched any investigation into the death of Ehmed, Ehmed's family filed a criminal complaint. His family also applied to the Mardin Bar Refugee Rights Center for the incident that took place in Kızıltepe Neighborhood. In the criminal complaint that states that there are witnesses who saw him being tortured, it was told that Ehmed's relative who came with him managed to escape and witnessed the incident.
 
'THEY WERE DRESSED IN MILITARY UNIFORMS'
 
It was stated that Ehmed was caught and tortured by individual 'dressed in military uniforms' and thrown over the border wall the next day, on November 28, 2021. Ehmed's family told that they wanted to report the incident to the Mardin Governor's Office but they were told that they needed a lawyer to do that and they were sent back.
 
The relatives of Ehmed underlined that they could give their statements as witnesses if necessary and demanded that the surveillence videos at the border to be examined.
 
BACKGROUND
 
Ridwan Îd Numan El Ehmed (40) who tried to cross over to Turkey on November 27, 2021 was caught and tortured by Turkish soldiers. Ehmed lost his life as a result of the torture. While his body was tossed over from the border wall to the other side, HDP Şırnak MP Hüseyin Kaçmaz brought the incident to the parliamentary agenda. Deputy Minister of Interior had to make a statement after the incident was brought to the parlimantary agenda and said: "We think that the Greece will benefit from the answer we expected to give and therefore I prefer not to answer."
