ANKARA - Garibe Gezer's older brother, Haşim Gezer, stated that the Kandıra Prison administration wanted to talk to him about the monthly phone calls they had with his sister, and asked Garibe's lawyers to reach her.

 

Haşim Gezer, the elder brother of Garibe Gezer, who lost her life in her cell in Kandıra No. 1 Type F Closed Prison, where she was subjected to systematic torture and rape, sent a letter from Elazig No. 2 High Security Closed Prison. In the letter sent to Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, he stated that they made a phone call with his sister once a month.

 

GEZER'S BROTHER TOLD THAT SHE WAS HARASSED AND RAPED BY THE MALE GUARDS

 

Stating that he could not write to the lawyers of her sister because he did not know their address, Garibe's elder brother Gezer stated that she told him on the phone about the rape and torture she was subjected to. Noting that the Kandıra Prison wanted to meet with him on December 14 regarding the phone calls they made, Haşim Gezer noted that he did not want to hold a meeting without Garibe's lawyers present. Elder Brother Gezer said on the phone that she was held in solitary confinement, that she was frequently dragged to a padded cell half naked and that she was harassed and raped by the guards. The prison administartion has these phone records in their system.

 

 

The letter sent by Haşim Gezer is as follows: “I am Haşim Gezer, I am being held in Elazığ No 2 High Security Closed Prison. I am the older brother of Garibe Gezer, who died in Kandıra Prison. Garibe and I talked on the phone once or twice a month. On 14/12/2021, the Kandıra Prison administration wanted to talk to me via SEGBİS (Auido and Video Conference System) about our phone conversations. I didn't want to talk without Garibe's lawyers, because Garibe told on the phone that she was held in solitary confinement, that she was frequently dragged to a padded cell half naked and that she was harassed and raped by the guards. The prison administartion has these phone records in their system.

 

LET THE LAWYERS CONTACT ME

 

As far as I know, Garibe has three lawyers. One is Jiyan, one is Eren Keskin, I don't know who the third lawyer is. If I knew their address, I would have written to them. If you reach Garibe's lawyers, tell them about this phone issue. It would be nice if they could reach me, or make the prosecutor take my statement as well. In order for the process to run smoothly, Garibe's lawyers should contact me somehow."

HDP's Gergerlioğlu applied to the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Committee, requesting the Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül to respond to his elder brother Gezer's statements.
