URFA - S.K., nephew of Eyyubiye Municipality Mayor Mehmet Kuş, who killed 4 people with his vehicle without a license, was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison and released after 8 months. Leyla Çiftçi, who lost 4 members of her family, said that the mayor offered money and a job.

S.K., 17-year-old nephew of AKP Eyyubiye Mayor Mehmet Kuş who did not have a licence, hit a vehicle driven by Şükrü Çiftçi, coming from the opposite side on September 27, 2020. Şükrü Çiftçi, his wife Zeliha and sons Necdet and Salih Çiftçi lost their lives as a result of the accident. S.K who caused the accident survived the crash wounded. S.K who testified about the accident 36 days after the accident within the scope of the investigation into the accident  was arrested and imprisoned by the Urfa 4th Criminal Court of Peace for "causing the death of more than one person by negligence".

S.K WAS RELEASED

S.K was first sentenced to 12 years in prison. The sentence was reduced, considering he was a minor at the time. Then S.K got time off for good behavior and was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months. However, S.K was released after 8 months in prison.

Çiftçi family lawyers took the decision they objected to the Court of Appeal. Leyla Çiftçi, who lost her father, mother and two older brothers in the accident and was a complainant in the case file, rebelled against the injustice they were exposed to.

Speaking to MA, Leyla Çiftçi said: "They went for shopping. My mother, father and my brother lost their lives on site as a result of another car coming from the opposite site hitting their vehicle. My other brother fought for his life for 11 days at the hospital and lost that fight. I had to claim the bodies of my family one after another and bury them. I learned that S.K caused their deaths and he was the nephew of Eyyubiye Mayor Mehmet Kuş. The medical report said he was in the ICU for 35 days but his condition was not that bad. It was stated that this person did not have a licence and had a history of speeding."

MEHMET KUŞ OFFERED BRIBE TO US

Stating that the trial regarding the incident did not satisfy them, Çiftçi claimed that the AKP's Eyyubiye Mayor Mehmet Kuş offered them money after the accident so that they would not complain about his nephew S.K. Çiftçi said, "Mayor Mehmet Kuş has constantly offered us money for us to withdraw our complaint.  He called many people from my family. He came to our village many times. My grandfather and uncles witnessed his bribe offerings. We were told, 'We can agree on a number. We don't need to go to the courthouse every month.' The other party's lawyer told us this in all the hearings. He was telling this to us in front of the prosecutor. It was offered that my sister and I, the only two people left from our family, would have a job in the government until we die and we would be paid without even showing up at work. Mehmet Kuş came to our vaillage four times with his bodyguards. My uncle was called by his people many times. They told us that S.K wouldn't have to stay long in jail anyway and that we should get the money and get it over with."

COURT: CONGRATULATIONS!

Stating that despite all this, they expected justice to be served, but they could not find justice in the last hearing, Çiftçi said: "Me and my sisters followed the hearings alone because there were no men left in our family. The police attacked us at the last hearing. There were a lot of police officers in the court room. We didn't know that these police were placed there to intervene us. Everyone except us knew that S.K was going to be released. The court head said: "Congratulations! You are released!" We heard this with our own ears. We reacted. My 75 year old grandfather was battered. I was dragged outside the court room and thrown away like a sack of potatoes. We were all beaten. No conscientious decision was made for this file. The authorities, the government intervened in this file. I want legal support from the public. I will never give up on this case"
