The threat of attack against Shengal is gaining a new dimension with each passing day. After the "Shengal Agreement", which was signed between Baghdad and the KDP on October 9, 2020, foreign forces were reinforced in the region. Recently, 2.500 armed troops were deployed to the Shengal-Rojava border. The Iraqi government has given a deadline until April 1 for the removal of the Êzîdxan Public Security Forces, which ensures the security of Shengal and the autonomous administration. However, many political parties and non-governmental organizations other than the KDP oppose the 'Shengal Agreement'. 

 

Mustafa Ölmez, a former peshmerga of the KDP, stated that the KDP discriminated among the Kurds and said: "I resigned from our party because it harmed the Kurdish unity. The KDP is doing the same thing today."

 

'THE UNION OF KURDS IS SHENGAL'

 

Stating that if Shengal falls, Kurds will also fall, Ölmez said: "I was a peshmerga in Heftanîn and Kandil in 1976. The peshmerga of that time did not discriminate among the Kurds. When our party, the KDP, discriminated against the Kurds, we stopped being peshmerga. Based on this, when we look at the developments taking place today, we see that the Bashur government harmed Kurdish unity. The roots of the Kurds come from Shengal. When Shengal falls, all Kurds will fall. Because the unity of the Kurds is Shengal. Today, the Êzidîs are fighting in their land. Iraq, the KDP, and Turkey want to destroy and eliminate this defense. If there is an attack on Shengal, the unity of the Kurds will weaken and Shengal will fall."

 

'PROTECT SHENGAL'

 

Underlining the need to protect Shengal, Ölmez said: "Our demand from the Bashur government is to support Êzidîs and to protect Shengal. The Government should not pay attention to the conspiracy of Turkey. Through out history, Turkey always wanted to destroy anywhere where a single Kurd lives. Today, it is the Kurds doing this. Today, the KDP is in close relation with Turkey, but Turkey was never friendly to the KDP. Turkey only uses KDP for its own benefits."

 

Ölmez said: "We have once request from Bashur. Do not leave Shengal unprotected and defenseless. The Êzidîs could not defend themselves in 2014. As ISIS entered Shengal, Iraqi and KDP forces fled and left Êzidîs alone. Today, the Êzidîs have established a will in their own land. Their only purpose is to govern themselves. They just want to protect their own land. This will not harm anyone, this is a success.KDP  should support Shengal and the unity of the Kurds."

 

EMPHASIS ON UNITY

 

Ölmez added, "Give up the Birakujî politics.The unity of the Kurds begins by enduring each other. We should not separate anyone. We must protect each person whose language and culture are Kurdish and establish our unity. All world states protect their own peoples. We need to give up this birakujî politics as soon as possible and establish our own unity."
