VAN - Those who went on hunger strike in 2018 in order to end the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan stated that the rotating hunger strike initiated by the prisoners with a similar demand should be embraced and that the demands are common.
The indefinite rotating hunger strike launced by the prisoners on November 27 continues with the 11th group. Kenan Kara and Ayhan Kaçak who was on hunger strike with a similar demand back in 2018 told that the prisoners' hunger strike must be supported and that the demands are common.
'A SCREAM AGAINST INJUSTICE'
Kenan Kara, who went on a hunger strike for 90 days against isolation in 2018 in Samsun Bafra T Type Closed Prison, stated that the problems in the country would be solved if the demands are met. Emphasizing that hunger strikes are a scream against the injustices, Kara said, "The hunger strike is an answer to the questions of 'what kind of life do we want to live, how can we build a life without fight and war, how can we produce a solution against the violations'. Friends in prisons hunger striking against isolation and rights violations have assumed a responsibility.
Underlining that there must be a backlash from the public for the demands to be met, Kara said: "Those who are on hunger strike does not think about theirselves right now. The only thing they think about is the future of their people, the freedoms of their people. This must be acknowladged. In hunger strikes, silence is death. Everyone should give voice to the hunger strikers.
'THESE ARE THE DEMANDS OF THE PEOPLE'
Ayhan Kaçak who was on hunger strike for 87 days in Van High Security Closed Prison in 2018 underlined that the hunger strike gave result back then. Kaçak said: "But now the problems in the prisons and the isolation continues. The hunger strike action was launched again because the problems weren't solved. The demands of the prisoners are the demands of the people. Authorities must take necessary steps to solve these problems. Everyone standing on the side of the democracy must support the hunger strikers."
