ŞIRNAK - Detained in Cizre, 15 year old D.E was forced to sing the Turkish National Anthem all day long at the police station. D.E who was released by the court, was threatened by the police.

 

15 year old D.E was taken into custody in Cizre for selling smuggled cigarettes by the police on January 9. Being taken to Cizre District Security Directorate, D.E was threatened into memorizing the Turkish National Anthem. D.E who was forced to sing the anthem the whole day was released by the court later.

 

It was stated that the police threatened D.E and said: "We will give you a homework everyday and you will do it or else!" 

 

Mother of D.E who did not want her name disclosed for security reasons said her son got hoarse from singing the anthem. They told him they will give him a homework every week and threatened if he doesn't do them he will bear the consequences. This is not acceptable."

 

The mother said they will file a criminal complaint against those responsible.
