Police crackdown on ESP: 48 members detained

NEWS CENTER - 48 people, including ESP Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş, Etha reporter Pınar Gayıp, were detained.
 
With the instruction of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, party buildings and houses of ESP members and executives were raided in 12 provinces. Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş, Etha reporter Pınar Gayıp, HDP PM member Sıtkı Güngör were among the people detained in the operation. While a detention warrant was issued for 52 people, 48 were detained. ESP Headquarters located on Mithatpaşa Street in Çankaya district of Ankara, as well as İzmir and İstanbul Provincial buildings, İzmir Bayraklı district organization building, ETHA News Agency office in İstanbul and Science, Education, Aesthetics, Culture and Art Research Foundation (BEKSAV) were stormed by the police.
 
The ESP Headquarters located at the Mithatpaşa Street in Ankara was also raided. The police, raiding the office late at night, entered the office accompainied by the neighborhood headman and the building manager. It was stated that no party officials were informed and none was there during the raid. Searching the office for 4 hours, the police had left the building.
 
POLICE BUSTED THE DOOR
 
The police busted the door and entered the ESP Bayraklı District Organization building. 
 
According to the information obtained, police went to ASil Benler's house to detain him around 01.00 PM to detain him but he was at a private hospital recovering from a surgery. Later the police went to the hospital to detain him. It was stated that he will be detained as soon as he is able to meet his basic needs on his own. Police are waiting in front of his hospital bed.
 
ESP member Zindan Dorudemir was taken into custody at his workplace in Diyarbakır.
 
The names of those detained are as follows: ESP Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş, ETHA Reporter Pınar Gayıp, HDP PM member Sıtkı Güngör, SKM MYK member Satiye Ok, ESP Provincial Co-Chair Ezgi Bahçeci, HDP Istanbul Provincial Organization Co-Spokesperson Pınar Türk, Attorney Kamil Ağaoğlu, Zindan Dorudemir, Alev Özkiraz, Ozan Özgenler, Kerim Altınmakas, Tuncay Kılıç, Rıdvan Coşkun, Nesrin Salduz, Kutay Soybil, Efe Özcan, Hakan Kafadar, Nazlı Masatçı, Orçun Masatçı (He was not detained because he was under quarantine), Mehmet Küçükgünaydın, Yunus Kara, Medine Çam , Burak Yilmaz.
