VAN - The imprisonment of four journalist who broke the story about two villagers thrown from a military helicopter in Van with documents, was brought before the Supreme Court.
An application was made to the Supreme Court regarding Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporters Adnan Bilen and Cemil Uğur, Jinnews reporter Şehbiran Abi and journalist Nazan Sala, who broke the story about two villagers Osman Şiban and Servet Turgut, who eventually lost his life as a result of the fall.
RIGHT VIOLATION
Media and Legal Studies Association (MLSA) lawyers, who undertake the legal representation of journalists, stated in their application that the "right to freedom and security of person" was violated. Stating that journalists were detained and arrested unfairly and unlawfully, the lawyers stated that the reason for the detention of journalists was their professional activities which became more clear with the police confiscating their books, newspapers, their notes on news and equipment.

Emphasizing that the real reason behind the arrest decision is the public debate caused by the torture experienced by the citizens detained in Van, the lawyers noted that the news reported by the journalists disturbed the government officials.

4 journalists who documented and reported the dropping of two citizens from a military helicopter in the Çatak district of Van, was arrested on October 9 on grounds that they 'made news or interviews about social incidents, against the state'.
