İSTANBUL - Commenting on the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Agos Newspaper Executive Editor Yetvart Danzikyan said that Turkey headed towards Armenia when its plans failed in Libya and Syria.

While the clashes that started 4 days ago between Azerbaijan and Armenia continues, a large number of civilians and soldiers from both sides lost their lives. Claims regarding Turkey's intervention to the war, especially deploying paramilitary forces from Syria to Azerbaijan to fight against Armenia are being discussed.

Commenting on the latest developments, and stating that Turkey headed towards Armenia when they lost their hopes of success in Libya and Syria, Agos Newspaper Executive Editor Yetvart Danzikyan said the course of war depends on the attitude of Russia.

AZERBAIJAN WAS REHEARSING THE WAR

Danzikyan reminded that Azerbaijan has been preparing for many years to reclaim "lost lands". Stating that the conflict between the two countries in July was the first rehearsal of this preparation, Danzikyan said: "Back then, Azerbaijan said that Armenia started the war, but most analysts said Armenia was already at defence and it would make no sense for them to start a war. At the end, the conflict took a few days and it ended with the intervention of the great powers and Russia. But it was understood that this was a rehearsal for Azerbaijan at that time. It will act again when he gets the chance."

IT WAS OBVIOUS AZERBAIJAN WAS TO RESPOND

Reminding that the Karabakh conflict has been continuing with negotiations for 30 years but no solution has been reached, Danzikyan said, “Azerbaijan was in the position of a country who 'lost lands' here. Therefore, Azerbaijan was militarily defeated during the Karabakh war in the 90's when it was busy with domestic and foreign affairs. It was obvious and expected for them to respond. This is what is happening right now."

THE REAL ISSUE HERE IS TURKEY'S INTERVENTION

Reminding that Turkey is involved in the war and that the core issue is this, Danzikyan said: "It is said that Turkey is involved in this with its arms and soldiers. It is also said that Turkey brought foreign fighters from Syria in support of Azerbaijan to fight against Armenia. Danzikyan drew attention to the fact that Turkey has been acting like one nation and one army with Azerbaijan for a year now, providing every support."

TURKEY IS THE EXECUTIVE OF THE WAR

Emphasizing that Turkey got involved in all wars at the region, especially in Syria and Libya in the recent years, Danzikyan said: "Turkey aims to be a military power in the region, especially in Syria and Libya for the last few years. But he couldn't get what he wanted in Syria and Libya. This is why it headed towards Armenia. Therefore he got closer in relations with Azerbaijan in the recent years. Not just politically, but militarily. There were frequent meetings with the Minister of National Defense and military officials after the conflict in July. Frankly, we could sense that some kind of operation was planned from these meetings. Therefore, Turkey is the patron of Azerbaijan and the executive of the war. While all international powers are calling for peace, Turkey is the only country that doesn't do that. Turkey is fueling the fire."

THE COURSE OF WAR DEPENDS ON THE ATTITUDE OF RUSSIA

Pointing out to the fact that the course of war depends on the great powers and Russia, Dansikyan said: "“Russia is in close relations with Armenia and Russia's effective presence has been preventing the war until today. Russia is taking it slow for now. Because Russia also has relations with Azerbaijan. The course of the war mostly depends on Russia's attitude and how further Turkey and Russia confronts. It looks like they had a confrontation in Libya and Syria and it mostly looks like its going to happen again in Armenia."

'I AM PESSIMISTIC ABOUT IT'

Stating that war is not a solution, the problem should be solved if there is a way of dialogue and negotiation, Danzikyan emphasized that many civilians and soldiers lost their lives in 2 days. Repeating that the problem cannot be solved by war, Danzikyan completed his words as follows: “But some countries see war from time to time as the only solution. Turkey has made very strong statements about Armenia. If we consider the recent position taken by the Turkey, I can say I'm a little pessimistic. "
