ANKARA - Fatma Kurtulan, who brought the isolation on Öcalan to the agenda of the parliament and asked, "What is the reason for the isolation in İmralı Prison?"
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Mersin MP Fatma Kurtulan brought the isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to the agenda of the Turkish parliament. Kurtulan submitted a parliamentary question for the Minister of Justice, Abdülhamit Gül, to answer.
Reminding that the applications filed by the lawyers of Öcalan to visit their client have not been responded, Kurtulan's parliamentary question stated as follows: "Although the weekly phone calls of all prisoners has been doubled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Öcalan's lawyers and family are unable to get any information about his health and safety."
Kurtulan asked the following questions for the Minister of Justice Gül to answer:
"* What is the reason of the isolation on Öcalan? On what ground is the demand for Öcalan to make regular phone calls with his lawyers and family not responded? On which legal basis, the communication demands even on the minimum basis are restrained?
* Do you have any attempt to provide Abdullah Öcalan's family and lawyers with regular information on his health?
* Do you have any work to ensure that Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners held in İmralı Prison meet face-to-face with their lawyers and their families under conditions that will not pose a risk during the coronavirus outbreak; if any, is the information on these attempts going be shared with his family and lawyers?
* What measures have been taken in the İmralı Prison to respond the coronavirus pandemic?
