Mojtaba and Maysam Waisi, prominent cultural activists in Kirmanshah, killed after Revolutionary Guards forces opened fire on the house where they were staying. According to reports, the two brothers had been wanted for a long time for participating in protests in January.

 

On 28 May, Revolutionary Guards forces reportedly opened fire on the house where the brothers were staying. The two brothers were killed at the scene. The fate of the other people inside the house remains unknown. 

 

In a statement released on social media, PJAK condemned the attack, saying: “We believe that the liberation movement of the Kurdish and Iranian peoples will not be stopped by terrorism, repression and crime.”

Mojtaba and Maysam Waisi were among the leading activists in Kirmanshah and dedicated their lives to Kurdish culture. The Waisi brothers played a role in establishing the Kurdish library in the Dareh Deraz neighbourhood of Kirmanshah. They also took part in Newroz celebrations and dengbêj cultural activities in the city, working throughout their lives to ensure that the values of the Kurdish people would not be forgotten.
