The Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) issued a statement on Iran’s drone attack targeting Peshmerga bases in the Kurdistan Region. In a statement posted on its social media platform, PAK said that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used prohibited weapons and explosives containing white phosphorus in the drone attack. 

 

The statement said that medical examinations of nine wounded Peshmerga fighters, along with an assessment of the damage caused by the attack, found that the attack had widespread, uncontrolled and destructive effects. It added: “Evidence found in the vegetation at the targeted site has confirmed that the suicide drones of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried the prohibited substance white phosphorus.” The statement stressed that the use of such explosives, which cause cruel, lethal and irreversible harm to human health and the environment, constitutes a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law (the Geneva Conventions) and the prohibition on the use of banned weapons.

 

The statement called on the UN Secretary General, the UN Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and all relevant human rights organizations to immediately initiate decisive legal proceedings to hold Iran accountable.
