MP İskender Bayhan: Open the border gates, stop harangue

İZMİR - Drawing attention to the siege in Kobanê (Kobani), EMEP (Labour Party) Istanbul MP İskender Bayhan called for the opening of the Mürşitpınar Border Gate, saying, "Open the border gates immediately, take concrete steps for peace, stop harangue."

Despite the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus on 30 January, the siege on Kobanê continues. Hundreds of thousands of people are facing serious difficulties in Kobanê, where there has been intense migration due to attacks by HTS, ISIS and Turkish-backed paramilitary groups on Tabqa, Raqqa, Eyn Îsa (Ain Issa), Girê Sipî (Girespi) and other places.

Basic needs are not being met, epidemics are spreading, and the humanitarian crisis is deepening every day in Kobanê. Not only is the siege not being lifted, but aid intended for Kobanê is also being blocked. Meanwhile, calls continue to come from many quarters for the siege on Kobanê to be lifted and for the border gates to be opened so that aid can reach Kobanê.

Speaking about the ongoing siege, İskender Bayhan, Deputy Chair of the EMEP and MP for Istanbul, emphasised that the four border gates closed on the Syrian border are the ones most urgently needed to be opened today. Bayhan stated that the failure to open the Mürşitpınar Border Gate, one of these, is a disgrace for the palace regime, adding that the rhetoric of peace and brotherhood is reflected in practice.

"That gate needs to be opened immediately," said Bayhan, recalling that the peoples of the world are showing solidarity with Rojava. Bayhan said: "Unfortunately, the palace regime (ruling party) continues to take a stance far removed from this. This country can no longer tolerate this policy. Open the border gates immediately, take concrete steps for peace, stop harangue."

CALL TO EXPAND THE STRUGGLE

Bayhan stated that the determined stance of the peoples of Rojava for a democratic life is very valuable, adding that the forces surrounding Rojava are the same forces causing social problems in Turkey. "They should never be fooled by this. We will do this through protests, reactions, expanding the struggle for concrete steps to be taken, and trying to enlighten workers and labourers. By expanding the struggle, we will bring forth the power to make them back down from these policies," Bayhan said.

Finally, recalling the US intervention in Venezuela and the attacks on Rojava with the support of international powers, Bayhan said that the perception that no one can stop America is wrong. Bayhan added that it is the American people who will stop America: "The people will stop this imperialist aggression and its collusive politics by fighting against the governments in their own countries."
