SDF: Clashes erupted west of Raqqa following an attack by Damascus

NEWS CENTER - Despite the withdrawal agreement, Syrian Democratic Forces SDF stated that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) attacked positions in Dibsi Afnan, noting that the mediating forces were responsible.

After the SDF announced their withdrawal from the cities of Dêr Hafir (Dayr Hafir) and Meskene (Maskanah), where there was a risk of conflict, under the mediation of international forces, HTS and affiliated groups attacked SDS positions in the Dibsi Afnan area west of Raqqa.

The statement noted that SDD forces had suffered casualties in the attacks. It emphasised that the agreement reached through international mediation had been clearly violated and that the parties breaching the agreement were responsible for the escalation.

The statement included the following remarks: "Clashes erupted in the Dibsi Afnan area, west of Raqqa, following a treacherous attack by Damascus government factions on our forces' positions, in clear violation of the internationally brokered agreement.

The agreement stipulated a ceasefire and a 48-hour deadline for our forces to withdraw from the towns of Deir Hafer and Maskana. However, the Damascus government deployed military convoys, heavy weapons, and tanks to the area before the withdrawal was complete and attacked our fighters, resulting in the martyrdom of several of them.

We hold those who violated the agreement and betrayed our forces fully responsible for this escalation. We also hold the international powers sponsoring the agreement responsible for what is happening and call upon them to intervene immediately to stop the violations and prevent further deterioration of the situation."
