NEWS CENTER – As protests continue in Iran, it has been reported that regime forces are attempting to suppress demonstrations in many cities due to the imposition of martial law practices.
Anti-regime protests that began on 28 December in Iran and Rojhilat continue. Following threats of intervention by the US, Iran has issued a statement calling for "talks".
US President Donald Trump announced during talks with Iranian officials that the regime would halt executions and massacres. However, with internet blackouts still ongoing in Iran, human rights organisations and local sources report that an undeclared state of martial law practices is in effect in the country. In Zahedan, in the province of Sistan and Balochistan, regime guards closed some streets and avenues with armoured vehicles. Armoured vehicles deployed extensively around the Mekki Mosque in Zahedan and its surroundings are reflected in images taken by citizens.
PROTESTS CONTINUE IN MANY CITIES
It was reported that protests continued recently during the funerals of protesters who had been handed over to their families in many cities in Lorestan province, as well as in the cities of Mashhad, Rasht, Tehran and Karaj. Local sources reported that shop closures and strikes also continued in many areas.
It emerged that regime guards burned or vandalised the shops of tradespeople participating in strikes in Rasht. Eyewitnesses reported that regime guards set fire to the Rasht market to block protesters' escape route, then opened fire on people.
Meanwhile, it was learned that water and electricity were still cut off in some areas. It was learned that martial law-like practices were imposed after 5 p.m. in many cities and their central squares. It was learned that trials continued to be held quickly in Iran, where the health status and estimated number of detainees remained unclear.
