MÊRDÎN – 2 young people were arrested and imprisoned on the grounds that they attended the Newroz celebration in Mêrdîn and then lit a Newroz fire in the neighborhood where they lived. It was stated that young people were tortured with handcuffs behind their backs at the doors of the judgeship and prosecutor's office.
Two young people were detained in the operation carried out today on the grounds that they attended the Newroz celebration held on March 20 in the Qoser (Kızıltepe) district of Mêrdîn and then lit a Newroz fire in the neighborhood where they lived. The detained young people were sent to Mardin Courthouse after their statements were taken by the Police. While Ramazan Oner and Yusuf Emlek, who were referred to the courthouse, were handcuffed behind their backs, the young people were kept waiting in front of the prosecutor's office with handcuffs behind their backs.
Their lawyers reacted to the fact that the young people were held in front of the prosecutor's office with handcuffs behind their backs and demanded that the handcuffs be opened. However, the police did not open the handcuffs. The lawyers recorded the situation in question.
Following the prosecution procedures, Oner and Emlek were referred to the Mardin Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest. While the handcuffs of the young people were not opened in front of the judge's door, the handcuffs of the young people were opened during the judge's interrogation.
During the judicial interrogation, the lawyers drew attention to the situation in question and asked for a criminal complaint to be filed against the police officers on the charge of "prohibition of ill-treatment and torture".
However, the Judgeship rejected this demand of the lawyers and decided to arrest the two young people on the grounds of "committing a crime on behalf of a terrorist organization, although they are not members of the organization".
