Thousands of people came together in the Lighthouse area for the Newroz celebration in Wan's Erdiş (Erciş) district. In the district, where village roads have been closed due to heavy snowfall since yesterday evening, people flocked to the Newroz area despite the adverse weather conditions and those who came could not fit into the area. While the women who came to celebrate wore local clothes, the intensity of yellow, green and red colors in the area attracted attention.

 

DEM Party's Wan Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Candidate Neslihan Şedal, Erdîş Municipality Co-Mayor Candidates Güler Temel and Baran Bilici, Wan Deputy Gülcan Kaçmaz Sağyiğit, DBP Provincial Co-Chair Harun Okay, TJA activists and Mothers for Peace Council members also attended Newroz.

 

While the program started with a moment of silence, slogans such as "Bijî berxwedana zindana (Long live resistance of dungeons)" and "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" were frequently chanted. 

 

CO-MAYOR CANDIDATES: WE WILL DEFINITELY WIN

 

Speaking after the Newroz fire was lit with applause, DEM Party Erdiş Municipality Co-Mayor Candidate Güler Temel said: “We are going to the March 31 elections with the enthusiasm of Newroz. We will show our enthusiasm in the elections and govern ourselves and our cities together."

 

Other Erdîş Municipality Co-Mayor Candidate Baran Bilici said: “The fact that you filled the area despite this cold weather shows that we won the elections with a great victory. We will work day and night to inflict a greater defeat on them than they have ever seen in history."

DBP Provincial Co-chair Harun Okay said: “There is resistance in the mountains, plains and dungeons. There is resistance for Mr. Abdullah Ocalan. We will continue to resist until we liberate Leader Apo."

 

'DON'T FORGET ZILAN WHEN GOING TO THE BALLOT BOX' 

 

DEM Party Wan Deputy Gülcan Kaçmaz Sağyiğit said: “Dirty isolation policies have been carried out on Mr. Abdullah Ocalan for 25 years. Prisoners in prisons are resisting to break the isolation on Mr. Abdullah Ocalan with hunger strikes and our people with Justice Watch. We are going on March 31 with Newroz warmth. We do not forget the Zilan massacre as we go to the polls. They will definitely leave in the face of the struggle of our people." 

After the speeches, Aryen Kom and Şehrîbana Kurdî took the stage and sang their songs. The crowd celebrated Newroz by singing songs and dancing halay, often chanting "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" slogans.
