WAN - DEM Party and DBP Wan Provincial organizations announced that they will organize a march for Kurdish language on February 19 within the scope of World Mother Language Day events.
People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Wan Province organizations made a statement in front of the party building on February 21, World Mother Language Day. In the statement attended by many people, banners and signs drawing attention to the importance of the mother tongue were carried.
DEM Party Wan Provincial Vice Co-Chair Yakup Almaç reacted to the bans on Kurdish language and stated that they would organize many programs on February 21 to draw attention to assimilation policies. "Language is the symbol of the existence of a society," said Almaç, adding: "The language of a society is the history of that society. Language reflects all the values of a society. Today, when Kurdish is spoken in the Turkish parliament, it is recorded as 'Unknown language' or 'X language'. This went down in history as a shame for Turkey.”
Calling for participation in the programs they will organize, Almaç emphasized that they will organize a mass march in the city on February 19 with the slogan "We are marching for Kurdish." Almaç stated that a statement will be made in front of Perihan AVM at 17:00 after the march.
Almaç noted that they will distribute leaflets containing information about the bans on Kurdish on February 20 at 12:00.
