Activists submitted a file containing a series of demands to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in order to draw attention to the severe isolation conditions imposed on Öcalan.
The visit of KCDK-E Co-chairs Fatoş Göksungür and Yüksel Koç lasted for half an hour. Speaking in a statement made after the meeting, Yüksel Koç told that they had met with two officials who had previously visited the İmralı Type F Prison, and that they conveyed their demands. Koç said, “I stated that as KCDK-E, we will continue our actions and resistance here if our demand is not met. Imrali Island prison is a torture system in itself. We absolutely do not accept it. The CPT is the torture prevention committee. Then it must fulfill its duties. We have stated that the conditions in which Leader Öcalan is living are unacceptable to our people."
'UNTIL THE IMRALI TORTURE SYSTEM ENDS'
KCDK-E Co-chair Göksungur said: “In our meeting, we reminded that our previous talks were inconclusive, and we stated that they did not follow the report they prepared. We conveyed that the heavy isolation system and isolation that has been going on for 23 years still continues. We stated that communication with his family and lawyers was cut off. We reminded that İmralı is a torture system by emphasizing the parts of their reports that they prepared before. But we told them that they could not fulfill their requirements. We stated that there is a special policy and status over Rêber Öcalan and that he does not exercise any of his rights. Until the Imrali torture system ends, we will resist."
