ANKARA - HDP Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş said that a disciplinary investigation has been launched against the prisoners who protested the death of Garibe Gezer, who died under suspicious circumstances in Kandıra Prison.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş took the floor in the budget negotiations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the parliament, Beştaş stated that no investigation has been launched into the death of Garibe Gezer even though 4 days have passed since her death.
INVESTIGATION AGAINST HDP DEPUTIES IN PRISON
Beştaş said that Garibe Gezer from Kandıra Prison passed away on the day the budget of the Ministry of Justice was being discussed and said, "Unfortunately, the Minister of Justice did not make a single comments regarding Gezer's death under suspicious circumstances. We demanded an investigation be launched and those responsible to be dismissed. Then, late in the evening, AKP Group Deputy Chair said that an investigation was launched. Gültan Kışanak, Figen Yüksekdağ, Gülser Yıldırım and dozens of our friends held hostage in Kandıra Prison today made phone calls with their families. They told they protested the death of Garibe Gezer. They protested her death by banging on the doors. Within 24 hours, a disciplinary investigation was initiated against our friends.”
'WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED'
Reminding that 4 days have passed since Garibe Gezer's death, no statement has been made by the authorities, Beştaş said, "However an investigation has been launched against those who protested the death of Gezer. The people who drive people into suicide, the people who murder women, the people who torture political prisoners are protected with an armour of impunity. However, investigations are launched against those who protest these things. We want an explanation from the AKP- MHP bloc. How did Garibe Gezer died?. We will never bi silenced about this."
'THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE EXHAUSTED'
Beştaş responded to AKP chair and President Erdoğan who made a call to the former Co-chair of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş why he wasn't making a call for a rally: "You keep Selahattin Demirtaş hostage in a prison, just like thousands of HDP members. He must have forgot Demirtaş is still behind bars in Edirne. If he is so concerned about our rallies he should check out our rallies in Mersin and Tekirdağ, or our congress in İstanbul yesterday which was attended by tens of thousands of people. They are the ones that are exhausted. Calling on someone to make a call for a rally while he is in prison is the point where reason has ended. We are proud of all of our friends in prison."
