Asrın Law Office's lawyers continue their attempts regarding the situation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and prisoners Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who have been held under heavy isolation conditions in İmralı High Security Type F Prison. No one have heard from Öcalan and the other three prisoners for the last 8 months. The lawyers applied to the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission, following the Bursa Enforcement Judgeship, the Ministry of Justice and the institutions affiliated to the ministry.
BAN ON ILL-TREATMENT
The lawyers pointed out that their clients are completely deprived of the means to ensure their contact with the outside world through administrative and judicial decisions devoid of any de facto and legal basis, and noted that preventing mechanisms that will enable them to contact the outside world is contrary to national and international legislation. The lawyers emphasized that this situation also constitutes a violation of the ban on ill-treatment. The lawyers said, “This situation creates deep concerns about their health status, conditions of detention, in short, their material and spiritual assets. This situation also constitutes a violation of national legislation as well as international conventions and universal legal norms and values.
REQUEST FOR ON SITE INSPECTION
In the application, in which the duties of the Human Rights Investigation Commission were reminded, the following statements were made: “The commission has the authority to request information from the relevant institutions and organizations, to conduct investigations there, to call the relevant persons and obtain information. When deemed necessary, the Commission may refer to the information of experts that it deems appropriate. For these reasons, as your commission has legal authority and duty; We request the commission to visit the Imrali High Security Closed Prison, carry out on-site investigations, and take necessary steps to end the uncertainty created by the alarming prison conditions, about their lives and health, by establishing physical contact with our clients, who have not been heard from for 8 months.
