URFA - It was stated that 80 guardian dressed as riot police subjected dozens of prisoners to torture and put them into wards that has no sewege system.
Prisoners making their weekly phonecalls to their families told that they were subjected to torture as a group. Stating that they were tortured as a result of the orders of the prison administation told that they have open wounds and broken bones and their demand for a medical report was denied.
Upon the application of the families, the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Urfa Branch sent a delegation to the prison to have a meeting with the tortured prisoners. The delegation met with 23 prisoners who were tortured and spoke to our agency.
THE WARDS WERE RAIDED BY 80 GUARDIANS DRESSED IN RIOT POLICE GEAR
The lawyers, who confirmed what the families said, noted that the guards raided their wards with three prison administrators. The lawyers stated that they wanted to be relocate the prisoners without any official documents being presented to them and said:"There are injured prisoners who have open wounds, the administration does not allow the doctor to report the assault.”
PRISONERS ARE REJECTING FOOD
The prisoners who were forced to change their wards said they started to boycott food and underlined that they will go on a hunger strike if they can not get any news from their friends.
ÖHD Urfa Branch and Human Rights Association (İHD), which visited the prisoners in prison, stated that they will share a report on the subject in the coming days.
Calling his family from the prison, Mehmet Binici said: "We were dragged on the floor, battered and we were put in a room with no windows. There are no blankets and a sewage system in the rooms.
The prison administration which we called to get further information told that we could not speak to anyone in charge and the claims were 'unrealistic'.
