URFA - The people living close to the Kobané border of Turkey which Turkey sees as a threat to itself said: "Those living on the other side of this border are our relatives. We have no problem with them other than the oppression of the military."
The protests called the 'Arab Spring' which grew with the demand of freedom, democracy, peace and respect to human rights by the people of the Middle East, expanded to Syria in 2011.The people of Rojava which did not want to be a party in the growing civil war, chose the Third Path and refused to chose sides. Forming o social contract and stepping up the resistance on the streets, the people established the Kobané canton in 2014 which was followed by the establishment of Efrîn and Cizîre cantons. The revolutionary process, which evolved into the life established by the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria under the leadership of the Kurds, continues with the construction process today.
Other actors who considered the model that the peoples of Rojava built to govern themselves as a threat, started attacking. The attacks, which the USA, Russia and European states have silently approved and continued by the paramilitary forces subcontracted with Turkey, still continue today.
TURKEY GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN RUSSIA AND USA
North and East Syria, which the peoples of the world followed closely after the Kobanê resistance, is subjected to the Turkey's threats and attacks on one hand while persuing the recognition of the status of the Autonomous Administration. While Shehba, to which people of Efrîn migrated after the attacks of Turkey and its paramilitary forces, and Eyn Isa, where the people of Girê Spi took refuge as a result of the attacks of the same forces, became a battlefield and a center of resistance, Turkey is going back and forth between USA and Russia which controls the airspace, to create new posts for itself.
WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE BORDER?
We observed what's going on in Suruç, the border neighbour of Kobané. Right at the foot of the 2 and a half meter high border wall on which Turkey has built barbed wire, there are railroad tracks. Right next to the railroad, a safe corridor was opened to be used by military vehicles. Mine fields were established at the Suruç side of the road which at some places covers a 500 meter area. Razor wires with a width and height of 2 meters was placed on the Suruç side of the mined area. Just below this are, a second safe corridor was opened. The soldiers, who are constantly patrolling the corridor, prevent people from approaching the border. The military activity on the border line, which is constantly monitored by armored vehicles 24/7 by thermal cameras, is creating unrest for the people living in the villages close to Kobané.
FARMING IS BANNED
In addition, observation points where armored military vehicles are parked every few hundred meters stand out, while military outposts are located every 5 kilometers or so. Dozens of howitzers and tanks are parked at the military post in Suruç's Mürşitpınar (Kobanê) Neighborhood. It was stated that the citizens living in the neighborhoods along the border could not cultivate their fields due to intense military activities and had to migrate.
'THOSE LIVING ACROSS THE BORDER ARE OUR RELATIVES'
The citizens who did not want to disclose their names underlined that the people living right across the border are their relatives, told that they did not have any problems with the people living across the border and that their only problem is the oppression of the soldiers.
