ANKARA- 69 students, who were battered and detained during the protest they started to solve their housing problems, were released. While a student's arm was broken, the lawyers who went to the hospital were also beaten.
Police intervened in the protest of the students, who could not find a place in state dormitories and had problems with housing due to high rents, in Izmir and Istanbul, yesterday evening. During the intervention in Hasan Ağa Park in the Buca district of İzmir, 41 students were battered and detained. The students were released after their statements were taken at the İzmir Provincial Police Dapertment.
A STUDENT'S ARM WAS BROKEN
During the detention, the arm of a student named Mehmet Kasar was broken. Halil Coşkun and Burak Yılmaz, lawyers of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), wanted to meet with their clients, who were taken to the hospital for a medical checkup. The lawyers were also beaten by the police in front of the hospital. While it is learned that lawyers will file a criminal complaint against police violence, the released students are expected to make a statement today.
