URFA - ÖHD Urfa Branch made a call for solidarity with 200 lawyers for the 200th day of the Senyaşar family's Justice Watch in front of the courthouse.
The sit in Şenyaşar family refers to as the 'Justice Watch' started by Emine Şenyaşar who lost her husband and two sons in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız and Ferit Şenyaşar who survived the attack wounded is on its 19tth day today. Drawing attention to the sit in to be held on the 200th day, Lawyers for Freedom Association (ÖHD) and Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) called for solidarity with the sit in, with 200 lawyers.
THE FILE WAS COVERED UP SO THAT THE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW
ÖHD Urfa Branch Co-chair Ali Arslan stated that the Şenyaşar family's struggle for justice did not begin on March 9, 2021, and that their struggle has continued since the massacre that took place on June 14, 2018. Arslan said, “This family was subjected to a massacre. They were attacked in their workplace. The wounded were killed along with the father, who was taken to the hospital. This massacre took place in front of many witnesses. The governor, ministers and deputies were there. The police were also there and this massacre was witnessed by them."
Reminding that the file was divided into two one file for the events that unfolded in the workplace and one for what happened in the hospital, Arslan pointed out that there was no development in the hospital file, which was the place where the actual massacre took place, for almost 3 years, and that there were "confidentiality" and "restriction" decisions in the file. Arslan said, “Lawyers have not been able to access the file for more than 3 years. The public and lawyers do not know about the content of this file. The file was covered up by the judiciary so that the people don't know."
PRACTICES OF THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES
Pointing out that it was the practices of the judicial authorities that brought the family before the Urfa Courthouse to stage a sit in, Arslan stated that the family, who gave up hope from the judicial authorities, started the Justice Watch 3 years after the incident. Arslan said, “The family doing the sit in there does not only call out to prosecutors and judges. The demand for justice is not only to the judicial authorities, these cries of demand are to the whole society. Society should give voice to this demand for justice." Reminding that mother Emine Şenyaşar was detained many times during the sit in and Ferit Şenyaşar was beaten, Arslan continued as follows: “This sit in is now entering its 200th day on Friday. This demand for justice has ceased to be only the demand of the Şenyaşar family. The point on which the phenomenon of justice is based is the profession of lawyer, which represents the defense. All lawyers complain about the current justice system. The struggle waged by the Şenyaşar family is the struggle of the lawyers representing the defense. This shame is our fault. The people who should support this are the defense, the lawyers. Therefore, on Friday, September 24, we call on all bar associations, legal organizations, and all colleagues sensitive to human rights and the sense of justice to support the Şenyaşar family's demand for justice.”
'WE WILL BE THERE'
"The banners and slogans of a lawyer is their tog" said Arslan and continued, "We will be there with at least 200 lawyers in their togs on the 200th day. We will stage a sit in with the family that day. We will tell the people about their struggle for justice. We will inform the public about the case. We will make a request to see the prosecutor and we will hold a press release."
