ANKARA - Three siblings and two relatives of Gurdegır who was tortured under custody were arrested today on charges of “assisting a member of an organization”. Gurdegır who was tortured was also arrested today.
Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on August 24 th that Gurdegir was detained while investigations conducted by the Lawyers' Association for Freedom (ÖHD) and Human Rights Association (İHD) Diyarbakır Branch, determined that he was tortured.
REFUSED TO GIVE HIS STATEMENT
Gürdeğir, who was brought to his hometown Bingöl after being detained in Istanbul, was taken to the courthouse after his interrogation at the Anti-Terror Branch. Gürdeğir, who exercised his right to remain silent during his statement at the prosecutor's office, was referred to the Bingöl Criminal Court of Peace with a request for detention on charges of "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "destroying the unity and integrity of the state".
Gürdeğir, who has a confidentiality order in his file, said in his statement at the court, "I have exercised my right to remain silent before at the police station and prosecutor's office. Likewise, I want to exercise my right to remain silent during the interrogation to be made by your judge. The reason for using my right to remain silent is the physical and psychological torture I was subjected to during my detention at the police station. "This is the attitude I have taken against the arrest of my sisters, whom I have not seen for 12 years, based on a false statement," he said.
Gürdeğir, who was given a warrant of arrest by the court, was sent to Bingöl M Type Prison.
RELATIVES ARE ALSO ARRESTED
His siblings Özger, Prenses and Ertan Gürdeğir, and his distant relative Mehmet Guyıldar along with a person whose name could not be found were also arrested on charges of “aiding the organization”.
