DİYARBAKIR - Diyarbakir Branch of the ÖHD announced that Zengin Gürdeğir, who has been in custody for 9 days, has been subjected to ill-treatment and torture.
Diyarbakır Branch of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) announced that Gürdeğir, who was detained by the Ministry of Interior in a raid on a house in Istanbul on July 24, was subjected to torture. In the statement made on the ÖHD's Twitter account, it was said, "The client has been subjected to various violations of rights after Gürdeğir was taken into custody on July 24, 2021 in Istanbul. It should be noted that the client remained in custody at both the TEM Branch and the KOM Branch during the detention period."
In the statement that reads Gürdeğir was handcuffed behind the back, it was said, "The client was almost always in handcuffs and when he wasn't he was beaten. His door was kicked constantly not to let him sleep by people who insulted him at the same time. He was taken to the interrogation room while some officer kicked and beaten him. He was also tortured at the interrogation room. He had a black eye when he saw him. All this torture was recorded by the TEM-KOM Branch surveillence tapes.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT
In the statement that reads, Gürdeğir was finally taken to hospital at night, it was said: "The medical reports are in the file as the proof of the torture. He was examined and treated in handcufss and while he was unconscious from the torture, which is a continuation of the torture. He was deprived of sleep and they made him listen to loud music from keeping him from sleeping. Torture is a crime in domestic and international laws."
Güdeğir's lawyer filed a criminal complaint against the personnel responsible for torture and ill-treatment.
