KONYA - Hakim Dal was killed in the attack of a group of 60 people on a Kurdish family from Diyarbakır in Meram district of Konya.
A family from Diyarbakır who has been living in Meram district of Anatolian city Konya for the last 20 years were subjected to a racist attack. A racist group of at least 60, carried out an armed attack against the Kurdish family. Hakim Dal (43) was killed as a result of the attack. It was learned that the aggessive group living in Karahüyük threatened the family before.
Speaking to Mesopotamia Agency (MA), Hamdi Dal, brother of Hakim Dal who lost his life in the attack said they were attacked because they were Kurdish. Dal said: "They didn't want us there because we are Kurdish. They perpetually threatened us and told that we should leave the village. The people living in the neighboring villages also pressured us and wanted us gone. We were grazing animals when a discussion broke out. We were three people. They came with at least 60. They were armed. They attacked us and insulted us because we are Kurdish. My brother lost his life as a result of the attack.
THE VILLAGE HEADMAN IS THE INSTIGATOR
One of the witnesses, Mehmet Emin told that this was not the first time Dal family was harassed and said: "They make their living from animal husbandry. They have been living here for a long time. They were attacked at lease three times before. The village headman is the instigator of the attack. He has been provoking the villagers against this Kurdish family. He is detained now. There is no one else under custody though."
Another Kurdish family living in the same district were attacked on July 12. The attackers told, "We are the graywolves. We won't let you live here". 7 people 4 of whom are women were injured as a result of the attack.
