ANKARA - HDP Women's Council applied to the Council of State for the annulment of the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Women's Council applied to the Council of State to annul the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. Speaking in front of the Council of State before submitting the application, HDP Women's Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran said, "Today we are here to see how the judiciary will take a stand against an unlawfulness. For a year, the spokespersons of the government have been targeting the achievements of women. The most important of these achievements is the Istanbul Convention."
Başaran said, "The AKP chair withdrew from the contract in the middle of the night, just like staging a coup. The convention was not a gifted to women by the government. It is a right gained as a result of the common struggle of women. We still believe that there are lawyers who believe in law. They will decide as a result of the authority given to them by the law and the social conscience. It will not be just a legal struggle. We have been a part of the struggle women have been waging for days in the streets and in the Parliament, we will never take a step back."
After the press release, the Women's Council applied to the Council of State together with the party lawyers.
