NEWS CENTER - Many women were detained on the grounds that they participated in the 19th Feminist Night March in Taksim on 8 March.
Three women members of the Women's Committee were detained on the grounds that they participated in the 19th Feminist Night March in Taksim on March 8, International Women's Day.
Announcing the detentions on their Twitter account, the Women's Committees posted, "There was no 'state' when I was raped, murdered but it finally appears when I decide to participate in the March 8 demonstrations? We do not accept that. We will not give up on our insistance on Taksim!"
It has been learned that 3 women named Merve Bektaş, Zeynep Çakır and Ebru S., members of the Women's Committees, have been detained with raids on their homes.
Revolutionary High Schools also stated that their member Sedef Özer was detained with a raid on her home too.
SCORES OF WOMEN WERE DETAINED ON THE SAME GROUNDS
The Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branch also announced that at least 10 women are under custody.
While the lawyers stated that the women were detained on grounds of 'insulting the president', it is also known that the women were detained with raids on their homes in the middle of the night.
Those detained are, “İlayda Cantaş, Ebru Sert, Merve Bektaş, Zeynep Çakır, Sedef Özer, Pelin Şahin, Nimet Tanrıkulu, İlknur Birol, Devrim Çapar.”
Women are using the hashtag #8MartaDokunma to protest the detentions.
