International Women's Day in Botan 2025-02-24 16:37:02   ŞIRNEX/AMED - Women in Botan started International Women's Day activities.   The Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) started International Women's Day events in Şirnex (Şırnak). With the slogan "We are organising peace with women's struggle for freedom", many representatives of institutions and women attended the event in front of Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK) Şirnex Branch building. The event started with "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" slogan and halay.    Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Şirnex Provincial Co-chair Nurcan Altürk stated that they will continue their struggle against the mentality that characterises what is imposed on women as "fate" and said, "Those who are afraid cannot write history. We have power and we are confident in ourselves. The whole world looks at the Kurdish struggle with admiration. Hope is more important than success. We have full faith that we will win. Our share is not slavery. We do not accept this fate."   TJA activist Adalet Çimen Fidan stated that the freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan will be the freedom of women and said, "On 8 March, we will shout 'Jin, jiyan, azadî' in every field with the paradigm of free women. They want to drag young women into prostitution with special war policies. We will increase our struggle against these special war policies. We will not bow down as women. There is severe isolation in all prisons, especially in İmralı. We, as women, will lead the struggle to break the isolation and for the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan."   DEM Party Şirnex MP Nevroz Uysal Aslan drew attention to the women-led resistance in Tishreen Dam and said, "We salute the women struggling in Tishreen. Those who talk about a solution must first recognise the Kurdish will. As Abdullah Öcalan said, society cannot be liberated without the liberation of women."   Referring to the special war policies carried out in Şirnex, Newroz Uysal Aslan said, "In a news report by the Mezopotamya Agency, it is stated how prostitution is carried out by gangs in Şirnex and how women are pushed into prostitution. A lawsuit was filed against 25 people. We will follow this case and we will increase the struggle against all dirty work."   AMED   Sur Municipality Women's Solidarity Centre gathered in front of DEM Party Sur district building on International Women's Day and visited the neighbourhoods. The women played sang Kurdish songs. The women walked from İskenderpaşa to Anzele Park with the slogan "Jin, jiyan, azadî" and distributed leaflets and called women to 8 March events.
