Release of 66-year-old prisoner Besra Erol prevented 2024-12-02 16:18:42 AMED - The release of 66-year-old ill prisoner Besra Erol, held in Elazığ Women's Closed Prison, was prevented for 1 year. Besra Erol, who was arrested on April 30, 2019 on the charge of "being an illegal organisation member" for her speeches at the grave of her son Evrim Denis Erol, who died  in a suicide bomb attack of ISIS in the garden of Amara Cultural Centre in Pirsûs district of Riha (Urfa), was sentenced to 7 and half years in prison. Besra Erol is held in Elazığ Women's Closed Prison and she compeleted 3/4 of her sentence, was supposed to be released on 9 December.    Last week, Besra Erol was taken to the Administration and Observation Board (İGK) and her release was postponed for one year due to her answers to the questions "Do you regret?" and "Why do you stay among political prisoners?".   WHO IS BESRA EROL?   A lawsuit was filed due to Besra Erol's words "I know the murderers" at the funeral of her son Evrim Deniz Erol, who lost his life in a suicide bomb attack organised by ISIS in 2015 in Pirsûs, was arrested after being detained. After 1 year of detention and release, Besra Erol was sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison for "being an illegal organisation member". In 2019, with the finalisation of the sentence, Besra Erol was arrested and taken to Muş Prison, and then transferred to Elazığ Women's Closed Prison.  Besra Erol struggles with diseases such as sinusitis, hernia, leg pain and blood pressure. Besra Erol underwent an operation on her eye at the same time and she needs to undergo another operation due to the recurrence of her illness.
