NEWS DESK - Articles in Finland and Sweden media report about the flooding of Hasankeyf by the Turkish state.

 

The articles underlined how the Ilisu Dam will not only put under water the 12 years old site but also displace thousands of Kurds.

 

Finland Yle News Agency said that the destruction of Hasankeyf would "leave tens of flooded villages where Kurds live."

 

Mesopotamia, reminded the agency, the historical land between the two rivers, is the cradle of civilization and the first place where people began to agriculture. The article stated that around ten civilizations have been established in the region and Hasankeyf has been recognised nine criteria to be on the World Heritage List drawn up by UNESCO.

 

Svenska Dagbladet, one of Sweden's top 4 newspapers for circulation, asked why Sweden says nothing about the flooding of Hasankeyf.
