Attorneys of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who were unable to see him since July 27, 2011, was able to see Öcalan as a consequence of the ongoing hunger strikes and death fasts.

 

The applications the lawyers made was being  rejected for reasons such as "adverse weather conditions", "Coaster is broken" , "state of emergency" and at last "disciplinary penalty' since July 27, 2011.

 

Asrın Law Office attorneys who was Öcalan's defenders held a press conference in Taksim Hill Hotel. Attorneys Faik Erol Cengiz, Newroz Uysal and Rezan Sarıca spoke to the press about the meeting. People's Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Ahmet Şık, HDP İstanbul Co-chair Cengiz Çiçek, People's Democratic Congress (HDK) İstanbul Co-spokesperson Mevlüt Aykoç, Prof. Dr. Gencay Gürsoy, 78's Initiative Spokesperson Celalettin Can and families of the prisoners who are on a death fast attended the meeting. Press members also showed great interest.

 

TWO ATTORNEYS MADE THE MEETING 

 

Attorneys of Asrın Law Office Nevroz Uysal, Rezan Sarıca and Faik Özgür Erol read the statement. Erol who gave information about the press statement, said: "Our press statement is about our meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on May 2. 4 attorneys made the application but only 2 of them were allowed to visit. Nevroz Uysal ve Rezan Sarıca will read 2 different texts. One of them is written by Asrın Law Office. The other one was written by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan and our 3 other clients. We are holding this press conference today, because the text could arrive at the weekend. "

 

While Attorney Rezan Sarıca read the press statement prepared by Asrın Law Office, Nevroz Uysal read the press statement written by Abdullah Öcalan, Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysel Aktaş who are also being kept in İmralı.

 

The statement of Asrın Law Office is as follows: 

 

"To the press and the public opinion..

 

 

“Basına ve Kamuoyuna…

 A meeting was held with our client, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, in İmralı F Type High Security Prison on 02.05.2019. This is the first lawyer meeting since July 27, 2011 after 810 applications. Bursa High Criminal Court that finalized the objection we made 2 weeks before this meeting, stated that all attorney visit prohibitions of all of our clients in imralı was lifted.

 

Even though our application was for visiting all of our clients in İmralı, Mr Veysi Aktaş, Mr. Hamili Yıldırım and Mr. Ömer Hayri Konar, our application to see our other clients was rejected. Again, the application was made by 4 attorneys as always, only 2 attorneys were allowed in and the exchange of notes and documents were not allowed even though there is no legal basis to it. The family visit for May 6 was also rejected without a legal basis.

 

 

 Mr. Öcalan has not been able to contact his lawyers in İmralı Prison for almost 8 years and that no interview has yet been made with the other three clients and that the request for the interview of some of the lawyers practicing has been rejected concerns us with the continuity of the right to lawyer and family interview and legal security. We do not have an information or prediction that the lawyer interviews will continue periodically.

 

LEGAL RIGHTS SHOULD BE INSTALLED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

 Again, as we learned from Mr. Öcalan, the daily press delivered to the administration to be given to him is not shared with him. The fact that the correspondence, such as his letter with his lawyers, has been blocked confirms the limitation on the right of communication. We invite the authorities to the duty and the public to the sensibility to establish the legal rights of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, who, despite all the impossibilities of absolute isolation, insists on his peaceful position.

 

The meeting on May 02, 2019 was approximately 1 hour. Mr. Öcalan has asked for the document signed by out other 3 clients to be given to us; but the document was delivered to us on weekend. The document is as follows: 

 

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

 

A deep social consensus is needed in the historical process we have been passingthrough.

In the solution of the problems, there is a need for democratic negotiation method away from all kinds of polarization and conflict culture.

 

 

Turkey's and even the region's problems, including the war will not be solved by  physical violence vehicles, but with a soft power of mind, politics and culture. 

 

A SENSITIVITY TOWARDS TURKEY'S PRECISION IS NEEDED

 

We believe that by avoiding conflict withing the scope of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG) in Syria, avoiding the culture of conflict; their position should be aimed at resolving the situation within the framework of the integrity of Syria in the perspective of the constitutional guarantee of local democracy.In this context, the sensitivities of Turkey should also be taken into consideration.

 

PEACE AND DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL SOLUTION IS NEEDED

 

While we respect the resistance of friends inside and outside of prisons, we would like to emphasize that they should not carry them to the point where they will endanger their health and will lead them to death. For us, their mental, physical and spiritual health is above all. We also believe that the most meaningful approach is linked to the development of mental and spiritual stance..

 

Our stance  in Imrali is determined to continue by further deepening and clarifying the way we expressed in the 2013 Newroz Declaration.

 

For us, an honorable peace and a solution of democratic politics is essential.
