VAN - Vedat Özağar, who is on a death fast demanding the termination of the isolation in İmralı, said: "If a man's conscience tells him 'That's Ok', he can find inner peace. He is on the right path. Our conscience forsee sacrifice today. That's why we are on a death fast."
While the hunger strike Leyla Güven initiated continues with the participation of thousands, 15 people on hunger strike turned their action to a death fast on April 30. One of the 4 names in Van High Security Prison is Vedat Özağar.
Özağar sent a letter explaining why he is on a death fast.
Özağar who condemned the isolation of Öcalan, said: "Our first responsibility is to break the isolation that is considered to be a crime against humanity in our own laws and in the international conventions Turkey have signed. There is a principle of equality in law. I salut those who make an effort trying to break this isolation."
Özağar who is in prison since 2015, explained why he started a death fast by saying: "I started a death fast after leaving behind 2 months of indefinite non rotating hunger strike. Humans live through a wide scale of emotions. Conscience measures the fairness of these. If a man's conscience tells him 'That's Ok', he can find inner peace. He is on the right path. Our conscience forsee sacrifice today. That's why we are on a death fast. And it feels good to be here."
Özağar, mentioning the silence of the public, stated that the main reason for this is the oppression of the government, the tyranny and the state terror.
Özağar who stated that they are trying to get result by scaring people into their path, said: "But they must know that the Kurdish people are resiliant and politic. A great resistance will follow this silence. I have faith in it. This must be understood, fascism can only be defeated by resistance. No one can afford to think there is a second way."
Özağar ended his letter saying: "Today, thousands of people are in a struggle trying to end the isolation. Their demands are my demands. No one wants to hear their scream or ignoring it. This is not moral or consciencious. That's why I started a death fast, because in this context, it is the moral thing to do. We have to break this isolation and this silence. This is our only goal. Resistance takes us to victory, submission takes us to betrayal. This is my only message and my only call. Good days will only come by resistance. No one wins without a fight."
