VAN- In an incident in Van Type T Closed Prison during a search, there had been guards and prisoners that were injured, the Ministry of Justice decided a compensation of 2 thousand 737 Liras for to be paid to the 3 guards that were injuredi during the incident. The Ministry has filed a lawsuit for the collection of compensation from 5 prisoners.
The ward of some detainees in Van T Type Closed Prison were raided by the guards on 23 January 2017. According to the allegations of the detainees , the guards attacked the prisoners during the raid saying "You are a terrorist, a traitor." The prisoners tried to protect themselves from the attack of the guards during the raid. The brawl grew and some prisoners, guards and the second prison administrator was injured.
In the incident, 15 prisoners were punished with 11 days, 5 prisoners were sentenced to 15 days for cell punishment and 19 recieved a reprimand. After the incident, the guards asked the Ministry of Justice to compensate for damages due to their duty disability. As a result, the Ministry of Justice Cash Compensation Commission decided Mikayil Mahmat, who served as the 2nd Director of the Van T Type Closed Penitentiary Institution, the execution and protection officers Muhammed Kurnaz, Erhan Yildirimto be paid a compensation of 2 thousand 737 TL.
Ministry of justice filed a lawsuit against Ahmet Çelik, Hakan Bilekçi,Özhan Ceyhan, Şahin Öncü and Kemal Kahraman a recovery case demanding they pay the compensation for the guards.
