ISTANBUL- DBP Marmara Region Co-spokeperson Mevlüt Aykoç talks about the activities of DEKUP and says their struggle for the freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, against drugs, prostitution, ecological destruction and trusteeship will continue.

The Coordination of Democratic Institutions (DEKUP), which includes many civil society organisations and political parties such as the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Mezopotamya Cultural Centre (MKM), Association for Assistance to Families of Prisoners and Detainees (TUHAY-DER), continues its activities.

Mevlüt Aykoç, Co-Spokesperson of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Marmara Region, made evaluations on the activities of the Coordination of Democratic Institutions, which organises actions and activities in many areas such as the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and end of the isolation.  Aykoç stated that among the main agendas of DEKUP is the struggle against special war devices such as isolation, prostitution and drugs.

DRUGS AND PROSTITUTION

Pointing out that drugs and prostitution are used as a method of corrupting the society in underdeveloped countries, Aykoç said that drugs are sold freely as if they were sold on a stall and that drug gangs are concentrated in neighbourhoods where people are poor. Stating that they are clear in the fight against drugs and prostitution, Aykoç pointed out that the state is behind the spread of prostitution and drugs and said: "We are based on a strong struggle against this. Drugs and prostitution have recently been tried to be developed in Kurdistan."

STRUGGLE AGAINST ISOLATION AND TRUSTEES

Aykoç noted that the Coordination of Democratic Institutions continued their struggle against the isolation and trustees. Reminding that they have held public meetings, briefings, panels and rallies within the scope of the campaign "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, democratic solution to the Kurdish issue", Aykoç said: "Our parties, association and similar organisations that struggle on democratic grounds continue their struggle continuously. Actions and activities were carried out in many areas, including the pressures and arrests against the people in this country, the isolation that constitutes the main basis of all of these, and the demand for the physical freedom of Mr Abdullah Öcalan.  We will continue to carry out similar activities in this period. In particular, there is a work and a struggle going on within the framework of informing the public, sharing the processes with the public, enlightening the public on this issue, and ensuring that the people themselves participate in these processes."

'ISOLATION IS NOT ONLY A PROBLEM OF THE KURDS'

Emphasising that the isolation is not only a problem of the Kurdish people, Aykoç continued as follows: "When we talk about the solution of the Kurdish issue, it means ensuring that all peoples participate in this process. It is necessary to develop a process together with all peoples. We are working for the participation of different social segments in the struggle.  The left, socialist and revolutionary people who struggle on democratic grounds together with all peoples are fighting against isolation. By taking the struggle against isolation to the international arena, the struggle against isolation is also being fought on the international arena. We are also trying to develop the dimension of the struggle in our own field by collaborating with institutions other than Kurdish associations, institutions, non-governmental organisations in this way."
