ISTANBUL - Pointing out that the aggravated isolation would not yield any results, Mahmut Taşçı, one of the  attorneys of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan said: "The problem cannot be solved without sitting at the table with Öcalan."

 

For more than a year, no news has been received from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held under heavy isolation conditions in the İmralı High Security Prison. His brother Mehmet Öcalan made an interrupted phone call on March 25, 2021. Mahmut Taşçı, one of Öcalan's first attorneys, commented on the aggravated isolation on Öcalan and the developments.

 

Mentioning the role of isolation in history, Taşçı said: "The isolation in İmralı is unique. A certain group of people opposed it when the isolation first started, this isolation has now spread to all prisons. The isolation in Imrali spread to the prisons and from there to the outside. Those outside are also under isolation. I think there are two main reasons why the isolation is so heavy. The first of these is Öcalan's struggle for peace. When we look at all his previous statements, defenses and legal evaluations, he made positive evaluations. There is an effort to prevent peoples from reflecting Öcalan's views and determinations to the outside."

 

ROJAVA IS A PICTURE OF ÖCALAN'S IDEAS

 

Drawing attention to the reason for the isolation imposed on Öcalan, Taşçı said: "The isolation was mainly due to the influence of Öcalan's thoughts. It is a fact that Öcalan's ideology, political view affects society. Whether we like it or not, there is such a reality. For example, Rojava has emerged from his ideology.”

 

'THOSE IN POWER FEARS ÖCALAN'S IDEAS'

 

Underlining that those in power could not tolerate Öcalan's ideas, Taşçı said: "They don't want his ideas to get out of İmralı and spread to the society. This is why he can't be visited by his family and lawyers."

 

TURKISH HISTORY IS FULL OF DECEPTION

 

Stating that Öcalan's views are not to be feared, Taşçı and pointing to the Oslo talks, said: "Öcalan only wants peace so he declared ceasefires many times and offered to negotiate. Turkey did not comply with these decisions." Pointing out to the İmralı meetings took place between 2013 and 2015, Taşçı said Turkey used deception in those meetings as well.

 

‘TURKISH STATE WANTED TO DECIEVE KURDS’

 

Stating that Turkey followed the policy of decieving Öcalan and the Kurds, Taşçı said: "The Turkish state planed to decieve Kurds but the result was not what they wanted. They agreed to negotiate for peace but then they overturned the negotiation table. The state wanted to divide the society with war and played them off against each other. So the Turkish state damaged peace and democracy. Now Erdogan says that he will attack Rojava, which has built with the ideas of Mr. Öcalan.”

 

THE WESTERN STATES PLAY A ROLE IN TURKEY'S ATTACKS 

 

Stating that western states play a role in Turkey's attacks, Taşçı continued his words as follows: "The states must have the principle of solving the problems. But no nation state adopted such a principle. Since all the countries of the world are nation states, they have the idea of one state, one nation which is racism. They are imposing their race like German and English; however, this is not the case in Rojava because of Öcalan's ideas. They don't want this system to develop in the Middle East."

 

'ÖCALAN'S OPINIONS ARE THAUGHT AS LESSONS'

 

Pointing out that Öcalan had a great influence on Kurds, intellectuals and democrats, Taşçı continued: “Isolation is being implemented to break this influence. It is done to cut off ties with society; however, they can not achieve their goals. Öcalan's ideology is taught in universities. Whether they like it or not, that's the truth.Until now, even the most violent wars have resulted in peace, no matter how painful it is and no matter how long it lasts it will definitely result in peace. To stall this would damage the people."

 

ÖCALAN OFFERS THE SOLITION

 

Taşçı said, “The Turkish state want to destroy who opposes it. If you destroy Kurds, Alevis, Armenians, women, and if you constantly erode their rights, if the state does this, people will call Turks  barbarians. The solition is to follow the ideas of Öcalan to accept all nations and religions.
