The foothills of Van Castle witness the most magnificent Newroz of the recent years. The celebrations with the slogan "Let's resist with the Newroz fire, let's liberate ourselves" started with great enthusiasm. Thousands of people started to flock into the Newroz area from two points early in the morning. Tens of thousands who came in their colorful dresses, carrying HDP flags in their hands, protested the law suit filed against the HDP to be closed.

There is a great reaction against the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in the area where banners written 'We will resist as you get more and more fascist' were hung all over the place. The area echoes with the slogan “Bijî Serok Apo”.

The Head of the Newroz Terpit Committee, Sedat Düşünmez, saluted the mass and wanted Newroz to be a means of peace and freedom. HDP Van Provincial Co-chair Fikret Doğan emphasized that Newroz means “resistance” for the Kurds and said, “The government, which is trying to put our struggle under pressure in all aspects, is turning to our peoples with an unprecedented attack. The hunger strike started by the political prisoners continues. The anti-democratic practices in prisons must end and the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan must be lifted.
