BİTLİS - HDP Bitlis Provincial Co-chair Rumet Dursun who made a statement regarding the arrest of DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven was sued with a request of a two year prison sentence for 'praising the crime and the criminal'.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Bitlis Provincial Organization protested the 22 years and 3 months prison sentence given to Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven on December 23, 2020 in Tatvan. Being summoned to District Security Directorate a few hours after the press release, an investigation was launched against HDP Bitlis Provincial Co-Chair Rumet Dursun.
PROSECUTOR DEMANDS 2 YEARS PRISON TIME
Tatvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation launched against Co-Mayor Dursun in less than a month. The one-page indictment prepared with the accusation of "praising the crime and the criminal" was accepted by the Tatvan Criminal Court of Peace. Dursun was asked to be sentenced to a prison sentence of one month to 2 years, for saying that Leyla Güven was the leader of the resistance.
'FLAGRENT OFFENSE'
In the indictment, it was stated that the statement was shared on the social media account of the party, and "The suspect shared the press statement on the mentioned Twitter account by considering the possibility of being seen, heard and perceived by an unidentified number of people, so it should be acknowledged that the suspect publicly performed the acts of praising the criminal (…)" was said.
The first hearing of the lawsuit against Dursun will be seen in the coming days.
