Sister of Koçak on death fast: My brother is 33 kilos 2020-03-09 10:50:00 İSTANBUL - Mustafa Koçak who is on a death fast for 251 days demanding 'fair trial' is detoriorating. His sister Sevgül Koçak who stated that his brother is now 33 kilos, said: "He said his goodbyes to us. If he is not released from prison, we're gonna have to take him out in a coffin."   Mustafa Koçak who is being prosecuted for the killing of Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz on March 31, 2015 in his office, was sentenced to aggravated life in prison last year. Koçak started a hunger strike with the demand 'fair trial and an independent court' and 'the prosecution of his torturers' following his sentencing. Koçak turned his hunger strike to a death fast on day 90. While the death fast is on day 251 now, the file was sent to the Supreme Court for approval.   'THEY ARE USING 'CONFESSORS' IN POLITICAL CASES   Attorney Ezgi Çakır who explained the trial process of her client Koçak, recalled that her client was taken into custody as a suspect in prosecutor Kiraz case and then he was forcefully made to accept the charges with threats and torture. Attorney Çakır who stated that her client has been a target because he did not accept these charges, said the confessor Berk Ercan testified not only against her client but also against 344 other people. Attorney Çakır said Berk Ercan's statement that his client provided the gun Prosecutor Kiraz was killed with made her client sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Çskır, stateing that the investigation started with a single witness statement and another witness was included in the file later, said: "We see that 'confessors' are being used in political cases all the time now."   Koçak's sister Sevgül Koçak, speaking about her brother's health status and pointing out that her brother is now 33 kilos, said: "Mustafa is so thin and weak that he can not walk. He is experiencing difficulties in speaking. He has numbness in his left arm, he does not feel his left arm. He lost his hearing in his left ear. He has swollen feet and crotches. "There is severe pain and cramps from the groin to the left kidney. There is a discoloration of the skin on the right and left hands and bruises on the nails."   Stating that the Ministry of Justice directed them to the Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, the sister Koçak continued: "They do not listen to us in any way. They do not accept any of our requests. If he is not released, I'm afraid we are gonna have to take him out in a coffin. He says he doesn't know if he is gonna wake up when he closes his eyes. He said his goodbyes to us. He can not stey in prison uner these conditions."
