36 years prison sentence requested for Sur Co-Mayor Özdemir: Anonymous witness does not recognize him! 2020-02-11 10:02:17 DİYARBAKIR - Sur Municipality Co- Mayor Cemal Özdemir is prosecuted for the demonstrations and events he attended and for an anonymous witness statement who doesn't even recognize him with a sentence request of 17years to 36 years.   The indictment prepared by Diyarbakır's Sur Municipality Co-mayor Cemal Özdemir, under the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (HDP), who was arrested 2 days after his dismissal on 21 December 2019, was completed. In the indictment accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court accuses Özdemir with the allegations of "being a member of an organization", "making propaganda for an organization", "buying and carrying weapons or bullets that are serious in terms of quality" and "possessing or handing over dangerous goods without permission". The prosecutor's office requests a prison sentence of 17 years to 36 years, while the hearing will be held on March 10.    Özdemir's accusation that he is  a "member of an illegal organization" was also based on the statement of an anonymous witness who did not even know Özdemir's name. The person who gave a statement against Özdemir on December 1, 2017 with a code name 'Tosun' said: "I don't know this person by name. I learned his name here from you as Cemal Özdemir. This person is a member of Democratic Society COngress (DTK). This person, using his political identity, provides YDG- H and YPS with money, guns, ammunition, explosives, etc."
