Memorial held for those who died in the basements of Cizre: AKP is the responsible for this brutality 2020-02-07 14:14:36   ŞIRNAK - Those who were burned and killed in the basements of their houses during the curfews declared in Cizre were commemorated. HDP District Co-chair Üzeyyir Kılınç stated that the responsible for the events was the AKP government and demanded the perpetrators be revealed and punished.   Those who were murdered in the basements of their houses on February 7, 2016 during the 79-day curfews declared on December 14th, 2015 in Cizre district of Şırnak were commemorated on the anniversary of their death. Dozens of people participated in the memorial along with the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Nuran İmir and Hüseyin Kaçmaz and former MP Ferhat Encü.   '177 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN BASEMENTS’   Pointing out that due to heavy weapons used during the operation nearly 3 thousand residences in Yafes, Sur, Cudi and Nur neighborhoods have become unusable, Kılınç said, “The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights has defined what happened in the district as 'Doomsday-like picture'”Noting that there were experienced severe human rights violations as well as the violations of the right to live,  during the curfew process, Kılınç said, “The most basic human right is violated. The ban in question was not only a curfew, but also a prohibition of ‘living’. During the 79-day curfew in Cizre, 288 people lost their lives., 177 of them being killed in the basements. 41 of them are children, 22 of them are women, 1 of which is a baby".   ‘RESPONSIBLE WILL BE PUT ON TRIAL’   Stating that not even one person among those who are responsible for the deaths was not put on trial after 4 years, Kılınç stated that this massacre file has tried to be lost in the dark corridors of Ankara by the AKP government just as Roboski Massacre. "The perpetrators are protected by the government and there is still an example of impunity in the files," said Kılınç. Finally, he stated that: "On the contrary, the majority of the lawsuits filed against prosecution showed no progress. We are faced with the repetition of 17,000 unknown murders back in the 90s. Even the funeral of 14 people who lost their lives in basement brutalities could not be found and ctheir bodies could not be delivered to families. The AKP government is the responsible for this brutality. It is the mentality that insists on no-solution policy and war policies regarding the Kurdish question. Until the perpetrators are exposed and punished, we will not let go of the AKP government. Those who are responsible from the bottom to the top will be put on trial! ”
