HDP Deputy Chair Oluç: There are serious claims of imprudence in the second avalanche disaster 2020-02-06 12:40:31 ANKARA – HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Group Deputy Chairman Saruhan Oluç drew attention to the claims that there were serious inconsistencies in the second avalanche disaster in Van and called for a joint proposal to the political parties: "In case that this joint proposal is not accepted, we will not participate in the discussions of this law proposal in the general assembly today."   Pointing out that there is an unpreparedness in the face of these successive disasters, Oluç said: “When we look back to the Elazig earthquake, aid was not provided to the villages for days. Some villages have never been visited. While all this happens we were asking where all the earthquake taxes are spent which should be used for earthquake victims and we and all those who asked this question were declared as shameless by the government. It was answered with great shamelessness. Elazig still shakes with aftershocks, people reside in tents, despite the cold. We are facing with an extremely serious portrait.”   ‘THERE ARE CLAIMS OF SERIOUS IMPRUDENCE'   Underlying the serious claims regarding the second avalanche disaster in Van Bahçesaray, Oluç stated that: “Those who know the winter conditions in Van already knows that even in normal times it is extremely problematic to travel across that route. Under this circumstances , an avalanche occured. And we can all clearly see the outcome. There are very serious claims that a major inconvenience has been made and that steps, which should not be taken in the avalanche disaster have been taken. Of course, maybe it is not correct to talk about these people while they are still under the avalanche. But there are the claims that we want to discuss later on.”   ‘BROADCAST FROM THE AVALANCHE WAS CUT, ERDOĞAN'S SPEECH WAS GIVEN’   Criticizing the speech of the AKP leader Tayyip Erdoğan during the avalanche disaster and the media's attitude, Oluç stated: “While all this is happening, there are strange things on the media side. The broadcasts made from Van-Bahçesaray avalanche zone were interrupted and the speech of the AKP President was published that moment. And in his speech he said ‘News came from the avalanche. The number of those killed under the avalanche becomes 33. Rest in peace. We have built 4,194 residences.” More than half of Turkey says enough already to those sentences.”   'LET'S GIVE A JOINT PROPOSAL TOGETHER'   Oluç stated that the law proposal envisaging the changes in the construction zoning law and restricting the powers of the municipalities, which is discussed in the Assembly, will give the ares of unearned income to the government. Oluç continued his words as follows: “Look at Bahçesaray on one side of Van Lake, there was an avalanche. On the other side, there is Ahlat region. According to article 20 of this law, the construction of a palace for the President is discussed. So we are talking about the two sides of Van Lake; one one side there is the misery and on the other the question of  how to build a palace. Therefore, we do not think that this discussion is of an ethical and morally correct kind. Our suggestion to all parties represented with a group in the assembly is very clear: Let's make a joint proposal together to discuss what should be done to investigate the results of the earthquake. Let's discuss all together Whether it is a party's proposal or a a joint proposal. Let's discuss all the problems resulted after avalanche and the problems result by the imprudence. And today, on such a day when both Elazig and Van Bahçesaray the suffering is yet  so urgent and hot, let's make a joint proposal and not talk about the construction zoning law. Let's just not talk about how income areas will fall into the lap of the government.”
