Increase in October inflation: Price of 289 items increased 2019-11-04 12:38:14 ANKARA - While consumer inflation has increased by 2 percent in comparison with the previous month, the annual inflation has been announced as 8.55 percent. The highest monthly increase has been recorded in prices of clothing and footwear with 11.70 percent. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the consumer and producer price indexes for October 2019 today (November 4).   Accordingly, the consumer price index has increased by 2 percent in comparison with September 2019, by 10.59 percent in comparison with December 2018 and by 8.55 percent in comparison with October 2018.   As for the domestic producer index, it has increased by 0.17 percent when compared to September 2019, by 6.71 percent when compared to Decembre 2018, by 1.70 percent when compared to October 2018 and by 22.58 percent on the basis on 12-month averages.   In October 2019, the highest monthly increase has been recorded in prices of clothing and footwear with 11.70 percent. This item has been followed by housing with a price increase of 3.55 percent, by food and non-alcoholic beverages with 1.65 percent and by communication with 1.43 percent.   In this month, the only monthly price decrease was in recreation and culture, where prices have fallen by 0.59 percent.   According to the figures announced by the TurkStat, the highest annual increase in October 2019 has been recorded in the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 43.60 percent. This item has been followed by health with a price increase of 14.24 percent, by education with 14.20 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants with 13.71 percent and, lastly, by miscellaneous goods and services with 13.43 percent.   In October, within average prices of 418 items in the consumer price index, average prices of 33 items have remained unchanged while average prices of 289 items have increased and those of 96 items have decreased.
