EU: Syria Crisis Cannot be Solved Through Military Means 2019-10-07 15:53:14 NEWS CENTER - EU Commission Spokesperson Kocijancic has indicated that while the EU understands the legitimate security concerns of Turkey, a long-term solution to the conflict in Syria “won't be reached through military means, but requires a genuine political transition”. The European Union (EU) has announced that while the Union understands the legitimate security concerns of Turkey in northern Syria, it is still supporting a political solution in the country.   Maja Kocijancic, the Spokesperson for the EU Commission, has answered the questions of journalists during her daily press release.   As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), Maja Kocijancic has stated that "while the EU understands the legitimate security concerns of Turkey, a long-term solution to the conflict will not be reached through military means, but requires a genuine political transition".   The Spokesperson has also underlined that the EU remains committed to the "unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity" of Syria.     A CALL TO ASTANA GUARANTORS     "Renewed armed hostilities in the northeast will not only exacerbate civilian suffering and lead to massive displacement but will also risk severely undermining current political efforts", Kocijancic has indicated.   She has also called on to Astana guarantors including Turkey to make intensified efforts "to put an end to the conflict, protect the civilians and to ensure unhindered humanitarian aid".   Kocijancic has also referred to Turkey's plan to send Syrian refugees to the region after the operation. Regarding this plan, Kocijancic has said, "We see that before a political solution is not achieved in Syria, the conditions necessary for the return of refugees do not arise"
