ECHR: The statement 'Öcalan is my political will' is within the scope of freedom of expression 2019-09-04 12:52:20 DİYARBAKIR - European Court of Human Rights decided that the 1 year 8 months of prison sentence given to Fehime Ete (59) who was accused of saying 'Öcalan is my political will' is a violation of freedom of thought and expression.Ete who was sentenced to prison due to filing a petition in scope of the campaign 'Öcalan is my political will', brought the file to ECHR and ECHR convicted Turkey to indemnity.   Ete was taken into custody in the Baykan district of Siirt Province on 25 February 2006 and Ete was taken into custody in the Baykan district of Siirt Province on 25 February 2006 and was sentenced by Dİyarbakır 4Th Heavy Penal Court with the accusation of 'making propaganda of an illegal organization'.. On April 10, 2010, Ete's lawyers brought the case to the Supreme Court of Appeals. On September 20, 2011, the 9th Penal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the decision of the first-instance court.     After the Supreme Court upheld the sentence, Ete's lawyer Reyhan Yalçındağ applied to the ECHR because  his client's right to freedom of thought and expression was violated.     ECHR ruling that Turkey have violated article 10 of European COnvention on Human Rights, convicted Turkey to pay 2 thousand 500 Euros.   The Court also ruled that the 780 euro litigation expense to be payed by Turkey
