ECHR sentenced Turkey on Demirtaş' appeal 2019-07-09 13:39:56   İSTANBUL - ECHR, ruling that HDP former Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş's freedom of expression is violated, sentenced Turkey to material compensation.   The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that the freedom of expression of Selahattin Demirtaş, the former co-chair of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) was violated. The Court sentenced Turkey to 2 thousand euro in compensation, thousand euros was ruled to pay court costs.     On 5 July 2005, when Demirtaş was the director of the Diyarbakır Human Rights Association, he made a speech on ROJ TV about lifting the attorney visitation ban and the isolation on Öcalan and his role in the solution of the Kurdish Question. The court ruled that the sentence given to Demirtaş was a violation of the freedom of expression.
