From torture victim to Erdoğan: Did we torture ourselves? 2019-05-31 13:30:10 URFA - Abdullah Yıldırım from Halfeti who responded to the Erdoğan saying 'Zero tolerance to torture' announcing the Judicial Reform Strategies, said: "Who did these to us? Is it not torture? We were being tortured by the police you employed two days before you say these things."   The citizens who were taken under custody in an operation conducted after the armed conflagration in Halfeti, reacted to the words of Erdoğan and responded to them by showing the bruises and scars on their bodies.     Yıldırım who were laid on the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back and beaten described the torture they were subjected to in the gendermerie station and than in Counter Terrorism Unit.     Yıldırım who reacted to the words of Erdoğan saying 'Zero tolerance to torture' by showing his bruises and scars, said: "Whereas you say we left those days behind when people were being tortured, what is this thing we have been going through for days, even weeks? Who did these to us? Is this not torture? We were being tortored by your police two days before you made this statements, did they not torture us? Are we imagining things? Did we torture ourselves? If you say you have zero tolerance for torture, make those who torture us stand trial. We will not let this go. Those who torture us will face justice!"     Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) İstanbul Branch Executive Attorney Tamer Doğan said: "Those who were detained in Halfeti and tortured for days, sexually assaulted, insulted and threatened were systematically tortured for more than 10 days. If we are to talk about judicial reform, judiciary package or 'zero tolerance to torture' it is necessary to start from Halfeti. So this statement is not a sincere statement, it has no credibility. I think it is a reform package that is completely conjunctural and made according to the process."
